We thought it’d be cool to build an almost completely silent gaming PC. One that you could place on your desk or living room without being made aware it is there. Graphics cards and mechanical SATA Hard drives are notoriously loud. Loading up a game sends most card fans into a fierce frenzy, causing all sorts of racket. When the GPU fans fire up and makes their noise, I am very quickly reminded that my computer is working hard to perform it’s task. Does it need to be this way?
What if we could build a gaming capable PC that didn’t make more noise whether we are using Excel or Grand Theft Auto and didn’t break the bank? We did it…
So our chosen spec involves choosing a small form factor ITX case with an with an AMD APU CPU and 8GB DDR4 RAM. To keep the CPU cool quietly we chose a quiet air cooler which is a proven winner of quite a few awards. It does a fantastic job of keeping things cool whilst not getting too fan-flustered.
Ok, it’s not going to run everything on Ultra settings but for a completely silent gaming experience, it at least runs most games. Take Blizzard’s game, “Overwatch” for example. This graphics chip runs it albeit on medium to low graphics options, but it is silent whilst doing so and it runs at a pretty decent frame rate and resolution. Full HD at 60fps!
